When a donor covers the fee, the processing cost comes out of the amount they added — not your donation. On a $100 gift, 90%+ of donors add roughly $4 to cover it. You receive $100. Your cost: $0. That's how the effective rate drops to 0–1% on covered transactions.

Spare Change round-ups let donors link a card and automatically round up everyday purchases to the nearest dollar — the difference goes to your organization. The rate is 10% per transaction because these are micro-transactions (often just cents) that require the same payment infrastructure as a full donation. The passive, recurring nature of round-ups typically makes the economics work out well for organizations over time.
